Selection - 1958
In this set from 1958, there are 60 images capturing various subjects, with a mix of the unusual and rare embedded throughout. Among the unusual and rare we find images of a shipwreck (images 3 to 6) and a haunting view of the Carafa Castle during a storm, which gives it a ghostly appearance. There are also photos of children dressed for Carnevale (images 13 and 14), as well as an image of a low flying plane, which was a rarity at the time (image 34).
Toward the end of the series, there's a powerful image of the Pope giving a benediction from a window of his residence (image 53) and several photographs of the fountains of Villa Borghese in Rome. Of particular note is that, during this time, my father had been diagnosed with cancer, and he and my mother traveled to Rome for his treatments. Within this context, we see some carefully staged portraits of my mother and father (images 47 to 51).
The set also includes striking seascapes, which I believe were taken in Tropea (image 41) and Taormina, Sicily (image 42). Additionally, there are images of a church located in a cave, accessible only on foot (images 23 to 26). Lastly, a touching photograph captures my nanny, Lisa, as she relearns to walk after suffering a stroke (images 31 to 33).
